Want to watch the Super Bowl live stream but don’t have a TV or tuner, or you can’t get the stream in your locality? Maybe you’re just not in an area that has coverage of the big game? No sweat, you can still get your football fix with a free live stream available to iPad users from the FOX Sports app.
The app release notes suggests there is limitation for certain TV providers, but apparently that limitation will be lifted for the big game, thus you can ignore it. And yes, this is exclusive to iPad users, even though the FOX Sports app is freely available for iPhone too. That limitation is due to some licensing or league restriction deal which is mentioned in the app notes, there may be a way around that if you’re a Verizon customer of some specific service, but we’re not aware of any.
Super Bowl 48 featuring the Seahawks versus the Broncos starts at 3:30 PM PST (6:30 PM EST), so grab your iPad, download the app, and enjoy the last football game of the 2013-2014 season. Even if you’re not a particular fan of football games, the huge budget commercials offer their own reason for many to tune in, and there’s a rumor that Apple will air a unique Super Bowl ad during the show at some point too.
Oh, and if you’re wondering how to send the live game feed from the iPad screen to a larger display like a TV, you’ve got a few options. The best choice would be to use a Lightning Digital AV Adapter with an HDMI cable and connecting it directly to a big screen TV. The Apple TV also supports mirroring, as does the Reflector app, and those who are a big more technically minded with Xcode installed on a Mac could use the iPad simulator on screen, then export the mirrored iPad screen from the Mac display to to a TV screen too… but really if you can go the direct iPad-to-TV route by way of HDMI, that’s your best bet.
Mac and PC users aren’t left out either, they’ll be able to stream the game live on the web directly from NFL.com so head that direction closer to game time to get it going.
