LEGO iPad Macintosh 128k

30 years ago today, Steve Jobs unveiled the very first Macintosh, and the rest, as they say, is history. If you’re looking for a unique way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the beloved Mac, why not grab a pile of LEGO bricks and build your very own Macintosh 128k that happens to double as totally usable iPad holder and stand?

Building a retro Macintosh iPad stand out of LEGO is certainly less intrusive than carving up an actual old school Mac enclosure to create something similar. Plus it’s LEGO, and what earthly human doesn’t like a good excuse to build something with LEGO?

Unfortunately, there aren’t any specific part lists or building instructions (for that you’ll have to turn to this equally great miniature LEGO Mac Plus) but if you’re dedicated enough you could probably figure out a solution by gathering a huge amount of white LEGO blocks and watching the video embedded below a few dozen times:

The creation and video, which actually has nothing to do with the Mac birthday at all, is actually an art project made by two designers. The Vimeo page includes the following caption from the makers:

Jason Kinsella and Charlotte Bakken have recreated a design classic with a modern twist. This project is testament to how a brand can sometimes move in a full circle. Kinsella and Bakken (both big fans of LEGO) recreated a scale model of the 1984 classic, Apple Macintosh. Then with a few simple adjustments to the design, they were able to incorporate the Apple iPad into the design. The result; a super cool looking place to dock the iPad, read the newspaper, or watch a film.

Heads up to DesignMilk for the awesome find, which is so very relevant today.

By the way, if anyone comes up with a walkthrough or building guide to make one of these without a bunch of guesswork, let us know.
